It appears Northeast Ohio's newest member of Congress may face a primary challenge. GOP Rep. Dave Joyce of Russell Township is being challenged for his seat by State Rep. Matt Lynch of Bainbridge Township. Voters will have the chance to decide on that race in the May primary.
Democrat Michael Wager and Libertarian David Macko have also filed.
And in a press release, Sarah LaTourette -- the daughter of former Rep. Steve LaTourette -- announced she'll try to take Lynch's place in the state House of Representatives.
Candidates have filed to challenge Democratic Reps. Marcy Kaptur and Marcia Fudge in this year's election. A Democrat named Cory Hoffman has filed to challenge Kaptur, and Fudge faces Republican Mark Zetzer.
Three others have filed to run in Kaptur's district -- Republicans Richard May and Robert C. Horrocks Jr., and socialist candidate Susan Purviance.
Two Democrats are hoping to run against Republican Rep. Jim Renacci. Pete Crossland and James Donenwirth both filed petitions yesterday in that race.
And the race for Cuyahoga County Executive is getting a new face. Former North Olmsted Mayor Thomas O'Grady filed petitions by yesterday's filing deadline.
Five other Democrats have also filed to run in the May primary: State Rep. Armond Budish, State Sen. Shirley Smith, former Cuyahoga County Sheriff Bob Reid, Tim Russo and Walter Allen Rogers Jr.
Cuyahoga County Councilman Jack Schron is the only candidate to file petitions on the Republican side.
Local boards of elections must verify candidates' petition signatures before they're officially added to the ballot.
