The city of Cleveland and developers are set to start work on a restaurant and apartments on the city's lakefront this year, preparing paperwork in anticipation of a late summer groundbreaking.

Dick Pace of Cumberland Real Estate Development says he hopes to sign a lease next month for city-owned parcels of land north of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Pace says he plans to start construction in late September.

"Our first two projects will be a restaurant on Voinovich Park on 9th Street," Pace said, "and a mixed-use building, a three-story building that will be on what used to be a skate park."

The building would include retail, office space and apartments. Pace says he hopes to finish the restaurant in time for the Republican National Convention next year. More retail and apartments are planned for the lakefront in the coming years.
