Charter School Reform Bill Advances to Ohio Senate

The bill--among other things--increases accountability for charter school sponsors and provides more information behind the contracts that operators enter in to.

Democratic Representative Teresa Fedor of Toledo says the bill was close to hammering down on low-performing schools that look for new sponsors when their current sponsors want to pull support--but the language was changed late in the game.

Fedor: "These charter schools we're trying to help move the ball into high quality-found a loophole. So they can sponsor hop again."

The pro-charters say they're happy with the bill but would also like to see stronger rules against sponsor hopping.
