Audio Postcard: The Trouble with Peanuts

DOMINIC
This table is the peanut free table. I sit here because I need to be healthy

STACI
The first time Dominic had a serious reaction was after he had a peanut butter cookie. He started to get a little whiny within 15 minutes after eating it. And then within a half hour his face was all red, he had hives, his face and eyes were swollen and then about 45 minutes later that's when he started coughing and wheezing.

STACI
After Dominic had his reaction with the peanut butter cookie. They tested him for peanuts and tree nuts found out he was highly allergic to peanuts and a few tree nuts. Dr. Kishore recommended that my course of action be to stay away from the peanut butter and actually I took it out of my house.

DOMINIC
My mom helps me all the time. She makes sure, if she's by me she makes sure what I eat and stuff.

STACI
A lot of people think that just handing Dominic a chocolate chip cookie even though there's no peanuts in it that that's ok but I have to watch for cross-contamination if it's manufactured on equipment that processes peanuts I don't let him have it. I mean the odds of him probably having a reaction are slim but it's not worth taking the chance. If we go some place that has peanuts he like walks 10 miles away from it or oh there's peanut butter can't walk down that aisle

DOMINIC
I am scared because I don't want to have another reaction.
