My browser is giving me error messages. What do I do?
The LSI: Life Science Investigation website works best in modern browsers. To receive the optimal user experience from our sites, we suggest downloading one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 8, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, or Opera.
How do I download the videos?
Each LSI experiment has its own main page, where a link is provided to download the corresponding video in MPEG-4 format. This format will work on Windows, Macintosh, and Linux computer systems. To download the episode to your computer, right-click on the link that says "Download the video here." Windows and Linux users, choose either "Save Target As" or "Save Link As" and then save the file to your computer. Mac users, control-click and select "Download Linked File". Once the file has finished downloading, you will be able to play it on your computer!
How do I play my downloaded videos?
You can play the LSI video downloads on your computer using either Apple's QuickTime Player, or VideoLAN's VLC Player. If you don't have either player, links are provided in the previous sentence to download them, for free, from their respective web sites.
You can play the file two different ways - one, open it through the player, or two, right-click on the file, choose "Open With," and then select either QuickTime or VLC Player.
I can't download the video and/or the player.
Your school computer network may not allow for content to be downloaded from the web. Please contact your school's tech support about downloading the necessary players and video.
How do I stream the videos online?
The LSI videos are available on our site in Flash format, which will stream directly over the web to your browser. To play a video, either click on the play icon in the player, or click right on the "Play Video" graphic. The video will begin immediately. When you're watching the video, you can use the bar at the bottom of the player to advance to any point of the video.
The player shows up, but the video doesn’t play/stream.
Chances are the Flash content is being blocked by your computer, or your school's network firewall. Contact your school's IT department to unblock content from WVIZ/PBS ideastream.
There’s no player!
If you do not see an embedded player, you most likely do not have Flash installed on your computer. To install Flash, visit Adobe's web site here. Once you install Flash on your computer, you should be able to view the videos.
How do I watch full screen?
Click the button on the lower-right side of the player. This will pop open the full screen video player. Press the icon again, or press the "ESC" key, to return to normal size.
I'm still having trouble!
