Old Stone Education Center

"Do you have one day to change a life forever?”

The Old Stone Education Center in partnership with Key Bank, will host a Volunteer Fair on Friday, March 19th at the InterContinental Hotel. The community is invited to meet the area’s non-profit organizations.  The non-profit organizations will share their missions, who they serve, and how you can get involved. 

A luncheon will follow the Volunteer Fair and will feature Ms. Susan L. Taylor, founder of the National CARES Mentoring Movement and former editor of Essence Magazine.  Ms. Taylor will address the issue and need for mentoring in our community, and the profound impact each of us can have on the lives of our youth.

The Old Stone Education Center serves the mothers of Cleveland, who did not complete high school.  The students receive an education in academics, parenting and life skills, and the potential for a self-sufficient life. 

SPACES Gallery presents New Winter Exhibitions

Art in Action: SPACES presents ...in a most dangerous manner, an exhibition of artists’ work that addresses economic recovery and stability, while imagining potential exits from that system. Amazing Feats of Aging at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History

Amazing Feats Of Aging, a new exhibition open now at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, explores the secrets to healthy aging and living longer. This fun and interactive exhibit examines the mysteries of aging and the achievements of humans and animals as part of the biological process.  Visitors will learn about the biology of aging, aging across the animal kingdom, healthy aging, and aging of the brain. MOCA Cleveland Announces Two Dynamic Winter/Spring Exhibitions

The Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland presents two dynamic exhibitions: From Then to Now: Masterworks of Contemporary African American Art, which explores the rich contributions of 27 artists to the culture of our time and All Falls Down, a stunning visual journey by 2009 Joyce Award winner *Iona Rozeal Brown. Pat Metheny Orchestrion Tour at Lorain Palace Theater on May 15th

Live Nation is pleased to present an evening with critically acclaimed jazz musician, Pat Metheny, at Lorain Palace Theater on Saturday, May 15 at 8:00 p.m.

By the age of 15, guitarist Pat Metheny was working regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City, Missouri, entering the international jazz scene in 1974.  Metheny’s signature style blends a loose and flexible articulation, customarily reserved for horn players, with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility - a way of playing and improvising that is modern in concept but deeply grounded in jazz tradition of melody, swing and the blues.  Metheny’s body of work includes compositions for solo guitar, small ensembles, electric and acoustic instruments, large orchestras and ballet pieces with settings ranging from modern jazz to rock to classical.

Over the years, Metheny has won countless polls as “Best Jazz Guitarist” and awards including three gold records for (Still Life) Talking, Letter from Home, and Secret Story.  He has also won 17 Grammy Awards spread out over a variety of different categories including Best Rock Instrumental, Best Contemporary Jazz Recording, Best Jazz Instrument Solo, Best Instrumental Composition.  the Pat Metheny Group won and unprecedented seven consecutive Grammies for seven consecutive albums.  Metheny has spent most of his life on tour, averaging between 120-240 shows a year since 1974.  At the time of this writing, he continues to be one of the brightest stars in the jazz community, dedicating time to both is own projects and those of emerging artists and established veterans alike, helping them to reach their audiences as wella s realizing their own artistic visions.

Oberlin College’s Artist Recital Series 2009-2010

Oberlin College’s esteemed Artist Recital Series is one of the oldest continuing concert series in the United States.
