Police Shooting
State and local officials have begun what’s expected to be a lengthy investigation of the high speed chase that ended with police fatally shooting two people. The dead were a Cleveland man and woman. When the chase began in downtown Cleveland, police thought shots had been fired from the car, but no gun or shell casings have turned up. Questions raised about the shootings include the great number of shots fired by officers, reportedly 137; whether the chase was justified and whether race played a role.

Bring Back Orphanages?
The grand jury has indicted Camilia Terry for aggravated murder in the death of her young son whose body was later found stuffed in a trash bag. Emilliano Terry’s slaying has raised public debate over the effectiveness, or not, of the social safety net that’s in place for poor and broken families. One commentator suggests that it’s time to bring back the orphanages that fell out of favor in the middle of the last century.

Many northeast Ohioans remember their school field trip to the museum for their first look at dinosaur bones, the ancient history of the region and the wonders of the universe. In the near future, the museum will undergo a major renovation and expansion that will create space for new and improved exhibits. It’ll be paid for with a fund-raising campaign that’s just begun.
