Tech Skills for the Common Core

Common Core digital literacy requirements across all instructional content areas are changing the way teachers design learning. The 2014 ideastream Technology + Learning Conference will feature Northeast Ohio’s very own teachers sharing their professional thought‑provoking observations, examples of their work, and integration of technology with strategies which positively impact student achievement.

The Google Institute

Day 1: Saturday, Oct 4

• Participate in an in-depth overview of Google Documents, Forms, Calendar, Sheets, Apps and much more.
• Discover how easy it is to make Google a part of daily teaching.
• Receive expert guidance from a Google Certified Educator.
• Begin developing a Google lesson to be presented at the next session.

Day 2: Saturday, Oct 18

• Extend learning on all of the Google topics from the previous session.
• Fine tune a lesson and present to the class for constructive feedback.

Graduate credit available. Earn one graduate credit from The University of Akron, Ashland University, John Carroll University or Cleveland State University for an additional fee.

Both sessions will be held at the Idea Center in Playhouse Square.

Friday, October 17 or Saturday, October 18

The bus ride will be filled with raffles, prizes, trivia, DVDs and surprises! Begin the day at Yoder’s Amish Home with a guided tour of Amish homes and a barn. Experience how the largest Amish population in the United States lives. Take a short ride on an authentic Amish buggy. Enjoy a delicious home-cooked buffet at Das Dutch Kitchen where recipes are used that have been handed down for generations. Visit the J. M. Smucker’s Company, an iconic image in the Amish community, that has produced trusted brands since 1897. End the day in the heart of the Amish community at Lehman’s Hardware store. Learn about simple products for a simple life that continue to be used by the Amish today. Discover how to create lessons about your experience!

Cost: $40 per person (includes transportation, Amish home tours, Amish buggy ride, lunch and snacks)

Tech Skills for the Common Core

WVIZ/PBS ideastream Education, in partnership with INFOhio, is offering an online graduate credit opportunity for Ohio’s K-12 educators. 21st Century Tech Skills for the Common Core allows an educator to earn one to four graduate credits by completing up to four online modules grouped from the Learning Commons. Completing the modules will enhance the ability to integrate informational text and project-based assignments with differentiated instruction.
