Tech Skills for the Common Core

Tech Skills for the Common Core

WVIZ/PBS ideastream Education, in partnership with INFOhio, is offering an online graduate credit opportunity for Ohio’s K-12 educators. 21st Century Tech Skills for the Common Core allows an educator to earn one to four graduate credits by completing up to four online modules grouped from the Learning Commons. Completing the modules will enhance the ability to integrate informational text and project-based assignments with differentiated instruction.

Cost: $130 per module. Graduate credit available.

Women for Technology Conference

Women for Technology Conference

Thursday, June 12, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Cost: $55 (includes copy of The Working Woman’s GPS, breakfast and parking)

Motivate young women to pursue careers in technology. A must conference for both male and female educators!

Opening Session: Be a part of The Sound of Ideas ‘live’ audience radio broadcast on 90.3 WCPN. Host Mike McIntyre and guests will discuss what is being done to help prepare and encourage women to enter the male-dominated field of technology.

Closing Keynote: Harness Your Power as an Educator. Speaker JJ DiGeronimo, author of The Working Woman’s GPS, will provide steps that can be taken in classrooms and schools to motivate girls to pursue technology careers.

The 2014 Amazing Technology Race

Wednesday, June 18, 8:15 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, June 19, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Includes Jet Express, golf cart rental, snacks. Each team receives one iPad Mini and the opportunity to win a second.

Day 1: Each team receives an iPad Mini and will borrow a Garmin eTrext Venture HC GPS. Learn the basic functions of each device. Armed with these technology tools, race around the island on golf carts while completing challenges such as taking pictures, creating videos, uploading info to Google Docs, and creating a slide presentation!

Day 2: Share team findings, and spend time collaborating and creating lessons. Present the lesson in front of middle school students who will score your lesson and award points toward winning an iPad Mini Learning Center (four iPads). Combined highest scores from both days win! All teams receive prizes.
