• Recipient of numerous Emmys and awards and inductee into the Hall of Fame for several broadcasting associations
• Received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Case Western Reserve University
• Unusual range of avocations including amateur radio, horology, astronomy, electronics, sailing and polar exploration
• Is one of only a few people to have visited both the North and South Poles
