Getting a Jumpstart of Your Career with Learning and Earning Experiences!
Learning in the workplace is not a new concept. It comes in many forms with different names: work-based learning, internships, clinicals, pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and co-operative education. What makes these experiences unique is that the program intentionally connects theory and skills developed in the classroom with employer and industry requirements. Students apply content knowledge critical to the job and use their skills to perform tasks and projects with supervision from their manager.
There is a renewed interest among employers to connect with high schools, career-technical centers and colleges to provide students with work-based learning opportunities. Manufacturers understand the benefits of engaging with young people to grow their talent pipeline. Employers, both large and small, throughout Northeast Ohio and other parts of the state are reaching out to schools to develop these partnerships.
On April 17, your students will meet young professionals (YPs) who have engaged in a “learning and earning” experience either in high school and/or college. They will hear from them about the advanced manufacturing companies they worked for and how they benefited from the experience. YPs will share their educational background in STEM fields and how they found these opportunities.
