Ingredients & Directions

2 pounds lean ground beef
4 whole eggs
1/2 tablespoon pepper
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon granulated garlic
1 cup plain breadcrumbs
4 ounce can mushroom soup
butter or margarine for sauteing
2 medium Spanish onions

Combine in medium size mixing bowl the beef, eggs, pepper, salt, garlic, breadcrumbs, and mushroom soup.  Mix ingredients well.  Form 6-8 thick patties, set aside.
In a large skillet, melt margarine (4 ounces).  Making sure your skillet is hot, place patties in pan, brown on each side for about 4 minutes.  Remove patties from pan and set in a baking dish or pan.

2 tablespoons beef base
4 ounces flour
1 quart water

In reserve drippings from pan, add 4 ounces flour , heat and stir.  Add 1 quart water with 2 tablespoons beef base, stir vigorously until gravy is hot and begins to bubble.  Pour gravy over salisbury and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.  Serve with grilled onions.

From its inception, the idea for the WVIZ/PBS Cooks! series was simple… and simply delicious! With Northeast and North Central Ohio being so rich in ethnic diversity, our plan was to gather together traditional and family-favorite recipes from some of the region’s best home cooks and then, through the power of television, share those recipes with you, our family and friends.
