Spotlight on Gigabit Cities

Blair Levin, Communications & Society Fellow with the Aspen Institute and Executive Director of Gig-U, shares how American cities, including Cleveland, can benefit from the next generation of broadband innovation and ensure their future viability as gigabit cities.

As the world shifts to broadband-enabled commerce, government, education, and healthcare, cities across the country are asking if they have the wired, fiber optic broadband networks they’ll need for the future. Cities like Seattle, Chicago, Chattanooga, Lafayette, and Kansas City have answered that question by establishing the next generation of open, scalable, gigabit network infrastructure. These “gigabit cities” are positioned to prosper in the future world economy and will be havens for the businesses, organizations, and citizens that want to thrive in a broadband-rich environment.

OneCommunity, in partnership with The City Club of Cleveland, has developed the Broadband: Understanding the Fiber of our Region speaker series to foster thoughtful discussion on how we can come together to best position Northeast Ohio to be a national leader in the innovative use of broadband and technology.
