Cancer in Northeast Ohio TV Series

In March, 2015 ideastream launched a multiple-media Be Well series about cancer in Northeast Ohio. The video contains four stories from a series of TV reports that aired over a four-month period on WVIZ’s public affairs show. The first story chronicles the experience of a local woman living in the shadow of stage IV breast cancer. The second story explains the concept of targeted therapy by following a tumor sample from a colon cancer patient through the testing process to see if he is a candidate for a targeted therapy drug. The third story introduces viewers to the concept of palliative care and describes its early use in a local program for patients with advanced lung or pancreatic cancers. The final story looks at groundbreaking research at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center that compared colon tumors of African American and white patients and found some unique biological underpinnings in a large number of the African American samples.
