Lorain County Metro Parks and TrueNorth Cultural Arts are pleased to present Sundays in the Park with George at French Creek Nature Center July 16 through August 8. Shows begin at 7:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays as well as a 3 pm matinee on Sundays. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling (440) 949-5200 or online at www.metroparks.cc. Sundays in the Park with George is a musical that was inspired by the painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of LaGrande Jatte” by Georges Seurat. The music and lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim and the book was written by James Lapine. The musical takes place in a park on Sundays as Georges paints the events of the park. This fictionalized Georges is immersed in a single minded concentration of painting the masterpiece that he loses his longtime girlfriend, Dot. The musical jumps ahead one hundred years to Georges great grandson, also named George and is a struggling artist. George soon learns about the motivation that Georges had when he painted from a book that Dot had when she was learning to read.
