We’re broadcasting on location in the City of Lakewood, the site of the Cleveland Orchestra’s 2014 At Home Residency Program. The Orchestra’s presence in Lakewood is part of a tradition that goes back more than 90 years.

Since it’s establishment in 1918, the Cleveland Orchestra performed in various halls and auditoriums around Northeast Ohio before they found their permanent home at Severance Hall. The Cleveland Orchestra’s first conductor, Nikolai Sokoloff, brought his musicians to perform at Lakewood High School back in March of 1920. Since then, Orchestra Music Directors have followed Sokoloff’s lead, and on May 24th, current director Franz Welser-Most added his name to the list performing at the Lakewood Civic Center. The concert will air May 30th at 9:00 p.m. on WVIZ/PBS ideastream and re-air Sunday, June 1st at 2:00 p.m.

The Cleveland Orchestra’s Lakewood Residency program began with a visit to a culinary class at Lakewood High School and continued with performances at a bowling alley, local business and restaurants.

And we welcome the new director of the Cleveland Museum of Art ,William Griswold, as he shares his thoughts on coming to Cleveland.

The residency culminated in a free orchestra concert performed at Lakewood Civic Auditorium on Saturday, May 24th. ideastream produced a live video web stream of the concert - the first time a concert by the Cleveland Orchestra was streamed live on the web! This video was created as an intermission piece for that concert. It features the sights and sounds of many of the residency activities. Enjoy!
