Earlier this year, Mitchell Kahn retired after serving as the Akron Museum’s director for 26 years. The new Executive Director and CEO is Mark Masuoka. On this episode, we sit down with Mark for a conversation about his vision for the Museum.

The exhibition, “Real-Surreal,” at the Akron Art Museum explores the collision of ideas between artists from the Realist and Surrealist movements between the 1920’s and the 1950’s.

Northeast Ohio is home to many great chefs, and some have even become national celebrities! But if you think all they care about is what goes on in the kitchen… well, you better think again! Chefs and restaurant owners go to great pains to create just the right mood and ambiance. From artwork to architecture, staff uniforms to the lighting and music, the goal is create a dining experience as good as the food. And often, there are some interesting stories behind all these critical decisions. With that in mind, we present “Beyond the Dish,” a new kind of restaurant review that looks at everything but the food.

The teenage years can be one of the most difficult times in a person’s life. For artist Michelangelo Lovelace it was especially challenging. He grew up in a single parent household with five siblings in a neighborhood riddled with violence and crime. At 16, he turned to art as a way to speak out against things like drugs, poverty and crime. This year, Michelangelo became the recipient of a Creative Work Force Fellowship Grant, a program sponsored by The Community Partnership for Arts and Culture and Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.
